Come April holidays and everyone will want to get away from the heat and the humdrum of city life. Whilst the ersatz ‘cool’ types head to the hills there are others who prefer to really get away and look out for places that are different, affordable and far from the madding crowd.

Along the picturesque southern coastline, just past Galle is the nondescript town- Habaraduwa. About ½ a kilometre inland, nestled in two acres of tropical gardens is a delightful collection of villas. A brainchild of Anura Saparamadu, who took time off from making limoncello, he has turned this plot of land into ten delightful abodes named Tisara Villas.

Designed to blend in with the environment, the Tisara Villas is meant for the chilled out traveller who just wants to get away from noise and pollution. Each villa stands alone and is fully furnished albeit differently. Each has two tastefully designed air conditioned double-bed rooms with majestic four-poster beds. The en- suite bathrooms are like little gardens with its own cemented bath tubs that look up to the open skies giving you an absolute sense of peace and tranquillity  as you soak in a nice scented bubble bath. The living and dining rooms are airy and spacious with tropical style handmade terra cotta floor tiles, and cane or sea-grass furniture. A fully equipped pantry is stocked with all the necessities for culinary delights which you can prepare yourself or have one of the Tisara chefs prepare for you. The chefs are adept to cater for a range of western or eastern dishes and believe me, they are good! The refrigerator cum mini bar is stocked with a range of bottled soft drinks as well as beers, chilled to perfection! A verandah runs alongside the villa providing an ideal place to relax whilst listening to the birds all around you. Apparently, 35 species of birds have been spotted in the gardens. So bring along your binoculars.

In the centre of the property amidst the landscaped gardens is a large swimming pool and sun deck.  A dip in the pool in the early hours of the day or even in the height of a sunny day is incredibly inviting and invigorating. You might even be tempted to take a dip at dusk when the entire garden is lit turning the entire garden into a veritable wonderland. BBQ’s can be arranged by the poolside under the starry night skies.

In addition, Tisara Villas has its own Ayurvedic massage centre, a Laundromat, 24 hour security and maintenance and maid service. How much more pampering could one ask for!

The service at Tisara Villas is exceptional. Meals are served at your convenience and the only thing you need is an appetite. Lunch and dinner could be served off the menu or special orders can be placed in advance.  In fact, along with the welcome drink, all juices served are fresh off the fruit trees in the garden. An added feature is the organic vegetables grown at the Villas for your consumption.

Tisara villas is perfect for a undisturbed family holiday where you and your family can enjoy privacy with only the incessant birdsong and the cool breezes to disturb your thoughts.  If you are someone who absolutely needs to touch base, then wi-fi is available across the compound. Yes, even by the poolside!

Tisara Villas will also arrange special tours for anyone who might want to enjoy whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa, visit the wonders of the national parks or even a catamaran ride in the nearby lagoon.  Or just get on the bicycles available on-site and explore the countryside. So yeah… when life gives you lemons… you know where to go…
